Setting up the assault waves is as much an art as anything else. Each player must figure out their own style and what works best for them. However, some commonality exists. Most agree the the first wave is a complete write off, wading to die as it were. It this were Star Trek, they'd all be unnamed security officers. It's the second wave that makes progress.

To start, the Marine needs to examine the Japanese setup.  Although you will not see much, hints can be revealed.  Without viewing this setup, I would recommend the following general attack scheme for the Marines in CGII.

First is the planned location of the Naval Bombardments (CG4, T15.52 ISSR 2).  Probably the nastiest place in the Japanese Setup will be around the Pier.  Red Two is a short route into shore; expect the worst here.  One of you're BLTs will be charging right down the Board edge/Pier because this is where you want to go.  I would place two of the Naval Bombardments right on the edge of the Pier.  Use one small and one big Bombardment here with the smaller one targeting the Pier/Beach edge and the bigger one a little further in.  With a little luck you will be able to Rubble one of the Pier hexes (key for Red Two Wave One below), remove some wire, maybe take out a Tet or breach the wall.  Place an additional small Bombardment along the Breast at the edge where it cuts back toward the airfield.  A good Japanese Player will put something ugly here.  This will provide a turn of cover so move fast.  The last big one will target the Beak focused on the tip and underside along Red One.

Now for the hard part; this is how I would arrange my BLTs for the rush to shore:

Red One
Wave One
    Rifle (F2)      Rifle (F3)
In LVTs spread evenly among the LVTs with the least PP possible per vehicle.

Wave Two
Rifle (F4)  Medium Tank (F11)      HQ (F1)  HW MGs (F5)

Wave Three
    HW balance (F5)      Engineers (F6).

Red Two
Wave One
Rifle (F2)      Rifle (F3)      Scout Snipers (along the Pier.)
In LVTs spread evenly among the LVTs with the least PP possible per vehicle.

Wave Two
Rifle (F4)  Medium Tank (F11)      HQ (F1)  HW MGs (F5)

Wave Three
   HW balance (F5) Engineers (F6)

Why?  I want to get Infantry on the Beach ASAP and I want the option of bringing up the Follow on Battalion if required (again, ASAP).  Most of Wave One will die, but with proper traffic management, they will provide sufficient cover to get the other two Waves on shore.  Then the fun begins.
